Continuous Formatting

The Continuous Formatting extension frees you from manually formatting code in Visual Studio 2026/2022/2019/2017. It automatically and consistently formats your C#, C++, TypeScript and JavaScript code as you type according to your code formatting style.

Continuous Formatting can format code using the built-in Visual Studio engine and using external tools like ReSharper and CodeRush:

Visual Studio code formatter (Edit.FormatDocument command) is configured in Visual Studio options:

Additionally, on the first silent code formatting you will be asked to select a code formatting profile:

It is recommended to select the Built-in: Reformat Code profile and click Run to set it as default.

You can always change a profile for silent cleanup in ReSharper options:

CodeRush code formatter

CodeRush code formatter (CodeRush.CleanUpDocument command) is configured in Formatting options:

Additionally, you need to select Apply CodeRush formatting - Apply In Action in Code Cleanup options:

Registration

You can register the product going to Visual Studio Tools menu - Options - Continuous Formatting.

Personal License

The personal license allows you to use Continuous Formatting on any number of computers or electronic devices, but you may not permit other individuals to use your license. Purchase of the personal license includes 1 year of software updates and technical support.
